My name is Fayma Mushtaq. I currently reside at Srinagar J&K, which is also my hometown. I have done my schooling and graduation at Srinagar. I have Bachelor’s degree in Environment & Water Management from Sri Pratap College, Srinagar. After my graduation I travelled to different institutes for pursuing my higher studies. As I believe to get an experience of working in a diversified scientific culture which makes a person more flexible and knowledgeable in terms of academics and research. I have completed my Master’s degree in Remote Sensing & GIS with merit position from Jiwaji University, Gwalior. After my Master’s degree I got an opportunity to join my Doctoral Program at Department of Remote Sensing, Birla Institute of Technology, Ranchi. During the tenure of my PhD, I was the recipient of Department of Science and Technology INSPIRE Fellowship. I successfully completed my PhD in the year 2018 entitled “Assessment of Potential Impacts of Various Natural and Anthropogenic Factors on Geo-environment of Wular Lake, J&K”.
After completion of my PhD, I worked as Principal Investigator for a project titled “Potential Ecological Impacts of Climate Change, Nitrogen Loadings, and Invasion of Alien Species on Freshwater Lake in Kashmir Himalayas. J&K.” The project was sponsored by Science and Engineering Research Board, a statutory body of the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India. I have also been awardee of University Grants Commissions Dr. D.S Kothari Post-Doctoral Fellowship.
Currently I am working as Geospatial Analyst at Department of Ecology, Environment and Remote Sensing, Government of Jammu & Kashmir, Srinagar in an NRSC sponsored project titled “Space based Information Support for Decentralized Planning at Panchayat level (SIS-DP)”.
I have a research experience in domain of Geospatial Technology and its application in Water Pollution studies. I have research articles published in SCI/ SCOPUS Indexed journals as well as International and National conferences. I am very passionate to work on the different features of Himalayan region and firmly believe that further research will open a window to realize this aspiration. Currently, I am working on geospatial modelling approach for various problems associated in freshwater lake ecosystems, in addition to lightning disaster in the Himalayan region. I am also interested in exploring my research interests in the cryosphere and alpine ecosystems of the Hindu Kush Himalayas in near future.
